LS1 heads on an LT1
Does anyone know if I could put LS1 heads on my LT1 engine? Has anyone tried it? would it give me any more power?
I have 1996 Z28 with 190K on it and it's making a nasty noise. The mechanic wants to start by taking off the valve cover and looking at the valve train, but if I could just find a set of used heads, that would be cheaper than the diagnosis alone. So rally all i want to know is if you think this would work and would it even give me more power if i did it?
Thanks.

RE: LS1 heads on an LT1
If you swapped your LT1 for a complete LS1 you would have to get an LS1 donor car for all the different parts and sensors you'd need and you would also have to purchase a new hood since the LS1 is physically taller than an LT1.

I agree with spartan. Even if you COULD swap heads, at that mileage...you might as well do a compression check and make sure the bottom end is OK first, then look into getting the heads redone. With a mileage that high, you never know what problems/potential problems lurk inside the motor.
