I'm with torque, if you can pick it up cheap and it's a decent car, then even if you run into problems when you tear down the engine, you can pick up another block if needed and build it the way you want to using the componets off the engine that's in it. I would to only do this if you have a DD and have the extra cash. I believe you shouldn't turn your DD into a race car, it'll just leave you rideless at some times for sure. But you could have a really nice project if it's worth it.

Well checkin out the ad. If you don't plan on having the car be a daily driver sounds like it has some good potential. But I would say make sure he has receipts for everything. I think everyone else has covered everything. Basically comes down to do you want it or not

If the interior is in good shape, and the paint is still good and good clear coat, I'd buy it. But, that is me personally as it would go into my garage, on jacks and I'd rip out the blown engine. How long he ran without oil pressure I'm sure he won't reveal to you.

If the guy has all the aftermarket parts he listed then they in themselves are worth the deal. Again, I worry more about the interior/exterior because a nice paint job isn't cheap and replacing interior and headliners and making them fit nice and snug is a pain in the butt.

If you are looking to get a ride on the cheap with a few hundred $$ repair, this isn't the car.

That engine needs to be torn down so tear it down, do it right, have the block cleaned, go .030 over and rebuild it. Allow yourself a couple months if you have the time. I would probably need about 4-6 months just because of my work schedule and I travel a lot.

yeah that's a lot of mods for 1700 bucks...i could use the tranny myself. i think it'd be a wise purchase if you know how to rebuild a motor or trust a shop to do it
