Default Leak from Headers...

Alright got the tranny fixed and it runs fine but im losing noise from the exhaust and a lot of power... There is a knocking type sound when you accelerate, I minimized the problem down to the gasket on my headers being bad, its on the driver side so its much easier to get to... What is the best way to replace the gasket on that side, from the top or bottom? and should I bring ramps so the car sits high enough if done from the bottom?

Ok better question.. How the hell do you take the bolts off.. they are too close to the piping.. what is the best tool for this?

you will need to use a stubby wrench

A stubby wrench huh... is it a 13mm? yeah cuz that bolt is way too close to the pipes for a socket or standard open/closed wrench

it depends on the size of the head on the bolt, some people use 5/16 some use 7/8,depends what was used during the install

me thinks u mean 3/8th in. i dont think a 7/8 bolt head will fit. lol. also depends on the number of sides to the bolt. 6 or 12 sided. a 6 sided bolt is a pita if its a 9/16th.

its 6 sided... I cant get anything around it... I dont know what was done during install because I bought the car with aftermarket shorties on it. this is real frustrating also another thing that pissed me off is I have a 8mm and 10 mm hex key for disc brakes but they dont fit on the calipers... So im not sure if it may be standard or just a star key for it.. do you guys know?

use a open ended wrench. u have to turn the wrench over with every turn, 16th of a full turn at a time or something like that. like i said really slow. depending on the room u have u may have to get some from underneath. i would invest in some smaller headed 16 sided header bolts.

I like using allen bolts for the headers. AutoZone even sells the allen intake manifold bolts, and they work for headers too. Now, I'm referring to a gen 1 engine, so I'm not sure if sizes are still the same between the two on an LT. But you can still get allen bolts separately for your headers. I cut down an allen wrench to make it a stubby to clear the tight bend tubes. They work much better and easier than the small head header bolts.
