Default Largest tire size?

i want to get the most traction out of my 96' z28 and im due for new rear tires, is wider ALWAYS better? or do i compromise more safety than speed?

stock rear end by the way

im not ready to swap in a F 9 inch but thats a future plan

new tires for the stock rims? 245-255 would be the widest on the 93-02 rim

now, if you get rims, get 17x9.5 you can run a 275 or a 17x11 to run a 11 inch tire
(those set ups look the best)...

If you really want better traction the key is a stickier compound, the only problem with this is they wear out faster. Wider will get you a little more traction, but not as much as most with wide tires would like to think, more than anything it looks cool. The widest tire you can run without tubbing your wheel wells is going to be a 315/35/ZR17, and that needs to be put on an 11" wheel.

You can run a 315 on a 10.5
