Hey guys, I'm looking to add a K&N Air Intake to my LT1 and I was just wondering how easy or difficult it is to install. Are there any special tools needed? Thanks for your help.

 

its very easy to install. All you need is a flat head screw driver. It connects right to the MAF, and instead of stopping where the air box does it will run all the way down next to the wheel well. You will see a plastic piece right below where the cone stops. Remove that plastic piece for air can get to the cone when driving (think part of it is connected to the wheel well if i remember correctly, but comes off with removing a few screws). Just be careful not to drive through big puddles.

 

Yeah man pretty well the easiest mod to do. Bought mine from chrome intakes on ebay. 65 bucks i think with the k+n filter. I mounted a 5$ drier duct thingy that u would see on the outside of ur house on the bottom of my car to suck the air instead of a removing that plastic piece. cant see it unless on the jackstands. well worth the 65$. ltr.

Thanks for the advice fellas. I'm pretty sure the addition of a new cold air intake will be the next project this fall before I have to put the car back in storage. What kinds of gains in HP and MPG have you guys seen?

 

The K&N and Moroso are more expensive for a reason...You're going to get very little actual power increase from a "chrome intake" because it has similar cross sectional area as the stock intake piping. You'll get a little increase since it has smoother bends. The K&N and Moroso have a larger cross sectional area throughout as well as smooth bends, which is what you want for good fluid flow.
Don't expect to see any increase in MPG...

 

What one do you recommend between the K&N and Moroso air intake?

 

I would say K&N. No reason really
ive just been using them for a few
years. and they never let me down.

Also is it a "Good" Idea to remove the
plastic piece on the bottom of the car.
I never removed mine when i was installing the K&n
im guessing im getting a loss of airflow. Im
just worried about water getting up in
the filter area.

 

Another option is lingenfelter. Cheaper than K&N and moroso but with the same quality.
