Just bought a z28
Hey guys I just bought a 95 z28 350 automatic with 105,000 miles on it. When I test drove it. It drove perfect, it shifted nice and smooth. It felt great compared to my v6 3.8 hahaha.
But I never floored it on the test drive because the guy was in the car with me so I did on my way home and My car accelerated but didn't shift into the next gear. I noticed when I cruise at 2500 rpms the car would bog up and down between 2500 to 1500 rpms. the car is having a hard time getting up and going. It kinda lags when I punch it and doesnt really take off like it should. Then when it does the rpms will rise and get stuck at the redline and when I let off the gas it will shift into the next gear.
Also when it goes in reverse I can feel a vibration in the floor board and it kinda makes a weird noise when I reverse. Like I said before when I test drove it the car didnt run like this then I picked it up 4 hours later and it ran like ****.
I need some ideas what this problem could be.

yeah theres no engine lights. My sisters husband thinks I need to take it back and get my money back if I even can. He says most likely its the tranny.. I wish it wasn't but I'm beginning to think so myself.

Step one, get it scanned. Not all codes will throw a SES light. But since it is a '95, you will need someone who knows how to scan it as the computer is a hybrid OBDI/OBDII system (OBDI computer with an OBDII interface). If you just hook up an OBDII scanner, it won't work and this is what most service shops will do.
Step two, always test the whole car when doing a test drive. I have told the owners to hold on when I slam the brakes at 75 mph to test for power and any pull. Then I floor it from a complete stop to check the acceleration and shifting, and I won't let off until the car hits 75 mph or so. I also do some rapid lane changes at freeway speeds to check the handling. For safety's sake, don't do any of the above in residential area or anywhere that there is any other traffic. I luckily live in a rural area with lots of wide open roads.
I let the owner know I am going to do this before the test drive and if they have a problem with it ask them to stay home or walk away from the car.

Did you get a written warranty with the car? If not, there is no "taking it back". The car is sold as is & shown, and buyer beware. It's up to the buyer to test everything out (or get it checked out by a pro), before plunking down the money. It's just as easy for the seller to now say you did something abusive to the car, as it is for you to say it was already like that. Sorry, but those are the cold hard facts of buying/selling a car, check everything over first.
