Default Generally accepted numbers?

What are the generally accepted numbers for an lt1 camaro (Stock)? ls1s were majorly underrated (300 -350), but I always hear that lt1s were too (just not nearly as much). The lt1 corvettes were said to have 305 hp, but I don't know what improvements there were in them over camaros. Assuming they are basically the same other than exhaust (How it was for ls1 camaros/corvettes?) wouldn't that put lt1 camaros near 295?

Meh. lol. Curiosity, eh?

Im not sure but i know that I had a Hot Rod Magazine from 98 where they did dyno runs on a stock LS1 Trans Am and A stock c5 Vette and the Trans Am actually put more horsepower down than the vette but roughly a 15 hp difference.

i think the lt1 numbers were fairly close, maybe slightly underrated.i dont remember the reason, but I used the corvette logic too. there is some difference in the motor, im assuming slvr will show up and help out with that one though.

The motors put in the vettes were exactly the same as the ones put into the Camaro. Both had aluminum heads and the same cam. The only LT1's that made different power were the iron head LT1's that went into the Impalla's and the Caprice. That being said, the Corvette did make a little more power, mainly due to a slightly better exhaust setup as well as a much less restricitive intake. The '96 and '97 Camaro SS was rated at 305 HP, and the only difference between it and the Z28s was the intake and a slightly better exhaust (if you got that package, I believe for SLP to actually market it as 305 HP it had to have the exhaust, but don't quote me on that). Needless to say, with a CAI you can assume you're running around 290+ at the crank. I haven't seen any stock Dyno numbers for an LT1 though.

The reason the T/A may have made more HP than the Vette is probably due to chance more than anything. All engines vary in output from the factory, some LS1's made more than "350" some made less, same thing goes for any motor. The factory HP ratings are more of an average.

Edit: I would also like to add in that the '93 is the black sheep for F-body HP numbers. Since it didn't used an MAP instead of an MAF, the fuel ratio isn't quite as constant, so it doesn't make quite as much peak HP as the 94+.

actually, the reason ls1 fbodies generally dyno higher is because the motors are exactly the same, but the IRS system for the corvettes, as well as the reverse mounted tranny in the c5's lost a little power as compared to the t56 in the fbody and the live axle

Well if you want to get into specifics the 98 and 99 F-body LS1 actually had a slightly more aggressive cam than the LS1 in the Corvette as well which could have something to do with higher numbers...

from the reading ive seen all of the ls1s per year had the same cam, but it was switched in 01 when the ls6 manifold was put on and the EGR was done away with.

The LS1 debuted in the 1997 Corvette, rated at 345hp. While they are the same engine, most people will tell you that the f-body version is under rated to make the Corvette look better. The camshaft in the Camaro and Firebird is actually a bit more aggresive than the Corvette.


*shrugs* not like it really matters since this is about an LT1 though
