Fans running on high
 

I have a 95 Z28. The service engine soon light comes on while in park or while driving and you can hear the fans going full speed. The engine is not overheating though. All gauges read at normal levels. If I get stopped at a light for more than 20-30 seconds the engine light goes off and the fans slow down, but the second i give it gas it happens all over again. Hoping someone on the forums can help me figure out what it could be, thanks!

Fans automatically come on when SES light is triggered. It's a fail safe to prevent damage. Going to have to find someone that can read the codes so we can find out what's causing the light to be triggered.

Should have mentioned they won't be able too. Almost all auto parts stores can only do '96 and later. I'll look to see what needs to be done to read the '95 cars cause I do remember they are oddballs.

Wanted to go ahead and post an update, went to autozone and found out they couldnt read the codes there. Checked the fuses in my car and the smog equipment 20 amp fuse was burned out. So i went over to O'Reilys and got more fuses, and went out to show the guy what was going on. While in the parking lot showing him we went through 5 fuses which all burned out when the SES light came on after turning the car on. We tried to read the codes by shorting out 5 & 6 on the OBD. But when we shorted those out, all that happened was the fans would kick on. Also I noticed while stopping at the bank today that if my car is in drive and stopped the SES light kicks off as well as the fans and my car begins to overheat, but when I get going again the SES light kicks back on and the fans kick on with it which causes it to cool back down again. The guy at O'reilys said it could be something to do with smog equipment or maybe the computer. Hoping this info can jog somebodys memory and help me figure out my problem! Thanks again,

Try this. The air pump that's on the drivers side of the engine bay (dow near the crank pulley), unplug the connector to it and see if that takes the SES light out. I remember when I first got my car the SES light would stay on and blow one of the fuses (trying to remember for the life of me which, but 20 amp sounds right). Unplugged the pump and the car as ran beautiful ever since and hasn't blown the fuse. Could try that real quick.

Not sure on the over heating part though.

and in a 93 it wont throw a code for some reason. mine did the same as yours mc and the pump was toast, mine was unplugged when i bought it and when i plugged it back in the fuse blew and ses light came on.

There is a short in that circuit somewhere. either in the wiring or internally inside the pump itself. If you look through some service manuals you should be able to find some diagrams and circuit specifications to go off of. See if you can find resistance specs for the pump itself and ohms it to see if it's internally shorted.
