Be aware that clanking noises are picked up by the knock sensor, and interpreted as spark knock. The PCM will then retard the spark timing and you will loose power for no good reason.

The previous owner did install headers, I think RK brand ? and it only sounds like its leaking when I step on the gas, no sounds at idle. The ticking sound that sounds like lifters only happens when I step on the gas as well.

I have a 94 z that has edelbrock shorty headers. I had the same problem. The headers connect to the y-pipe and run along the passenger seat and connect to the cat. The ticking or tapping sound was the curve of the y-pipe hitting the frame under the passenger seat. All I did was adjust the exhuast flange that connects the headers to the y-pipe on both sides. Spinning it seemed to adjust it at least 1/4 of an inch from the frame. Now no more tapping. Just a loud smooth screaming Z.
