I haven't noticed that before, but you are right has been towed, guess I should be glad they didn't put the hook on the exhaust LOL

First time I noticed the exhaust dipping down, was when I pushed in the jack under the engine cross memb

Measured the trans mount last weekend, and the distance between trans and crossmember is a little over 2’ (55mm).

Spec on a new trans mount says they are 47 mm, so it sure seems like the rear end of the trans is up high enough.

I’ve been toying with the idea of using an induction heater heat up the appropriate bend on the exhaust, and then push it right with a pry bar, not sure how sensitive the cat would be to such heat though if its done in the neighborhood of that .....

seems like a good excuse for headers... :)

That's a though :), they might even be the same money as an induction heater lol..

My car is however already way over the budget estimated once I got it, so I'm aiming for a low cost solution, besides I don't I would pass the inspection here without the cats anyway

yah I see the price of them has gone up quite a bit. used to be able to pick up generic brands for allot less.

Think I've gone give it a shot heating up the bend just after the cat with a propane torch, and then pry the exhaust away from the engine cross member, a bonus would be to get it up a bit too

The cat should be able to take the heat since it is a few inches away from the bend, I hope...

cats are made to get pretty hot.

Yup, my thinking too...

Seems to be several of cats to choose from for the 95-97 Z28, below is from the 93-02 Camaro Parts Manual.
96-97 have two of them but still seems plentiful as for my 96 there are six to choose from, four if you exclude the export variants.

But my problem with the cross pipe having a bend towards the frame (see pict in post #9) could hardly have to do with that as the bend of the pipe ought to be the same on all 4gen camaros unless I'm missing something here ...

While doing an oil service on the trans, I added a 4mm distance plate between the trans and trans mount raising the end enough to almost let the pipe off the crossmember, used a 9mm first but that got too much as the upper part of trans got in contact with the body
