its ok to run it for awhile on open headers, but after awhile it is hard on parts. Like the crank, pistons, camshaft, crankshaft.

[QUOTE=Turbolag86;425701]Thanks. I'm gonna order the new gaskets today.
Percy's Seal-4-Good Header Gaskets
i see they have three different types. which is good for the le2 heads. would that be the 66031 and i trim? the brodix d 66122 is a d shape but is 1.8 and my headers are 1.75 so i dont think they will work.

How does that happen?

it's like the whole tuning fork thing. The awesome sound of the exhaust resonates up the collector to the heads. It then resonates into the valves, to the block, and then to the crank and camshaft.

Surely you've heard of this? I know, don't call you Shirley

end nonsense post

I put the Percy's gaskets on last weekend. They work great ! No leaks !

I was thinking about the temperature of the car....I was gonna wrap the coolant sensor with heat tape....maybe because its so close to the header it thinks the engine is running hotter than it really is.

Or I will try bleeding the coolant system....

Or, maybe wrap the headers ? Idk

I drove the car last week about 8 miles down the road...Wow do those headers sound great !

The car runs great, I just need to sort out this temperature issue.

So either, bleed the line, wrap the sensor with heat tape, or wrap the headers...maybe all three.....Any opinions on that ?

Torque_is_good smiles to himself as another disciple of Percy's Seal-4-Good gaskets has been created.

As I kept insisting to you, the darn things just work.

As for heat, do you mean the engine temp rises or that when you go under the hood you feel a lot of heat off of the headers?

I wouldn't wrap the headers

Haha yep....love the Percys !

The engine temp just rises higher than normal. As long as I'm going down the road the temp stays a little below the middle mark. As soon as I stop and idle for about 1 minute the engine temp goes over the halfway point and will go to the 3/4 mark if it sits long enough. It won't go higher than the 3/4 though. I watched it in the driveway...The thermostat kicks in and it drops below 3/4 a little, then back up to it and so on.

nooooooo

I have a 180 degree thermostat. If i drive down the road then the temp stays at around 180 degrees. I have a custom tune in my car. The fans kick in at around 200 degrees. So, if the car is idling and hits 200, the fans kick in and cool it back to around 190 degrees.

It's not the thermostat, it's the fans that you want to engage. You will need to get a tune to have them kick on earlier than the stock setting of "extremely hot"

I used a service from a vendor who is not a sponsor to this site. I captured datalogs and he kept tweaking new tunes until the car ran better than ever
