Default Engine temp is high after headers

I drove the car today and I noticed that after installing the long tubes and ORY, the car temp heats up REALLY fast. It runs at almost the half way point when going down the road, and at idle, it will climb up to the 3/4 mark, and then drop down a little when the thermostat kicks in.

Does anyone's car do this after headers ?

And is it normal ?

try wrapping the headers in that heat wrap stuff they may be making the engine compartment hotter in turn making the engine hotter

I have some header wrap sitting in the shop. I'll wrap the headers once I get my new gaskets in.

must have some good stuff your repeating yourself. lol. did u drain the coolant at all when u installed the headers. mine ran a little high but has settled to normal temps now. dont remember but do u have an auto trans. my tranny ran hot because it wasnt locking up right and it brought the system temp up just like yours is doing. i think i had a little air in there too though.

disconnect the battery for 10 minutes

check your coolant level and bleed the system

try replacing your O2's (NGK's work just fine, you don't need Delco)

Haha...Idk why that posted twice.... oops !

When I did the headers I broke the temp sensor and when I pulled it out ....yea, all the coolant drained out. So I filled it back up.

My trans is a 6 speed. It has new fluid in it too from when we did the clutch.

How do u bleed the coolant system ? It might be in the manual I bought.

Its in the manual you bought turbolag. Did you get the gaskets for it yet? and that high temp wrap isnt always the best way to go. They brag that stuff way up but it really aint that good.

first u park the car on a hill with the front on the up side. fill with coolant with the bleeders open, close them as they quit bubbling air out. there are three bleeders on my car. one on the thermostate housing, one on the coolant line by the alt and one at the bottom of the tb. the one on the coolant line will not bleed untill the motor is running. once the radiator is full and the lower bleeders are closed start the motor and watch the bleeder on the coolant line and close when air quits coming out. refill the radiator and close. now take the car for a drive around the block and back to the hill position and bleed air again. let cool and refill the radiator. should be good to go but u may have to bleed again.

Thanks. I'm gonna order the new gaskets today.
Percy's Seal-4-Good Header Gaskets

I'll work on bleeding the radiator once I get the new gaskets on. I took the Y pipe off to bring to the shop to fix the collector on the passenger side. I don't wanna drive it around with open headers....I mean I do but I have read that isn't great to do since it isn't tuned to run on straight headers.
