Default Engine Mods

Hey I have a 1994 Z28, its Auto with 65,000 miles. Its has a stock LT1. I live in central NY so i only drive to from May to October cause of salt and snow. I was to pull the motor this winter and has some work done to it. I drive it quite daily so i don't want a super charger or turbo or anything that need more than 93 octane. It has SLP Intake and some kind of exhaust. It runs straight out the right side no muffler but looks like dual exhaust. It's pretty loud. But any sugestions would be apperciated because I want to start buying parts now. NOS would be cool but dont want too much. I'm scared I'd blow it. I have about $1500 to use.

Build me a motor

$1500??

what do you wish to accomplish?

First, drain the radiator, flush the system well and replace the hoses and put in a 180 thermostat

probably about $130 for hoses, thermo and coolant

get long tube headers (coated) and an off road y pipe.
get some heat sleeve for the abs cable

headers, percys gaskets, y pipe, heat sleeves, approx $600

a couple new O2 sensors. Put them in after about 2 weeks post header installation- approx $110

replace the plugs and wires about $60 (use the jegs wires they are fine)

You are now below $900. the car already has a CAI according to you so you are now inhaling and exhaling better. The car is now ready for more mods because without good intake/exhaust, it makes no sense for mods.

So, you have $600. if you want better acceleration you could get gears. Or, you could get a higher stall torque converter.

If you want a little more power, or are thinking cam/heads later, then go for 1.6 roller rockers, springs, push rods

your money is now gone

once you decide to go internal, you open Pandoras box and the money goes very quickly. I'd stop at bolt ons/rockers and see if you are satisfied.

$1500 isn't enough to do much substantial. Headers and Y-pipe will take most if not all of your budget.

OK let me rephrase again. I'm pulling the motor... forget about headers and exhaust.. I'm talking $1500 in motor parts.

if you can't inhale and exhale well, all the muscles in the world won't help you.

the same goes for your car. Just like with a house, the foundation must first be laid and then the rest is built.

Or, you could just disregard what is being posted by people who have already done this because it's not the answer that you want.

the choice is yours

I know. But why buy **** that I wont need till I'm ready to put the motor back in. I can get all that stuff after I build the motor. I'm not being a **** but I want to build a nice street motor as I asked to begin with, with $1500.

you need to specify stuff more...you keep saying you want to "build" a motor. to me, "build" means you want to tear it down to a bare block and start fresh...in which case $1500 isn't close to enough money.

why are you pulling the motor? if you're not tearing the whole motor down for a rebuild then you don't need to pull it out. a parts list for a cam swap will run about 700 assuming you buy used parts(and that number is probably low).

i'll tell you what i'm doing to my current motor.

i already have headers, y pipe, ss3600 torque converter, 3:42 gears, SS intake
1.6 comp pro mag roller rockers with guide plates and studs
7.2 pushrods
crane 10308-1 valve spring kit
30# svo injectors
now all i need is a cam...i'm just trying to decide exactly what i want. i'm leaning toward a cc503 since my heads are stock and i don't want to choke the cam too much
