i think my opti dist is goin out and i herd the newer vented dist like on a 95-97 lt1 is better than the earley one like on the 92-94 so my question is... whats the diff between the two other than the vented housing i know that the vntd one is a lot cheaper so and was said to be better so i was just wondering if it would work on my 93 so if anyone knows give me a holler.. thanks

The newer vented opti is better, and should be fine on your 93.

The timing chain cover is different and the drive pin on the camshaft is different. The late model distributor does not fit early model cars. You can get a late model distributor cap , and with a little work graft it on the early model distributor base, otherwise you need to repace the timing chain cover and camshaft. GM does not sell distributor caps but u can get on the aftermarket. The new ones are better but they still dont like water.
