changin opti
ok im going to change my opti next week, before i do it the car has a new water pump so i will put that back on but while im doin it is there any other thing i should look at while i have everything torn apart? you may know from my other post the car is throwing a bad missfire code with new plugs and wires and its still doing it so the opti is next, any suggestions?

recheck the plug wires while everything is out of the way. change the seals on the front cover. specially the water pump seal. 69 has a thread on here that shows how to make a magic marker end into a seal installer. i have one that i picked up on the net that is the right tool and it works great. went through three seals trying to get it on right not useing the tool. have not ruined one yet useing the tool. kent-morre j 39089 and it looks alot like a magic marker cap only way sorter.

oh and use some rvt on the dizzy cap seal and use electrical grease on the plug wire ends. seals stuff up a little better from the water.

hey man i was lookin at your pics of your black z, its pretty nice..i was wondering what kind of paint you used to do your rims and side markers with, im needin to do something different with my stock rims bad
|
thanks man, lots of damn work lol, rims are professionally powder coated with semi gloss, and the side markers and tail lights are done with a spray tint called VHT tail light tint, search for it on eBay, its some awesome stuff http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/VHT-N...item3efc21343b

now craby, the seal you speak of? is it under the opti where the opti pretty much gets turned with the cam?
|
i mean the water pump sorry, i have never torn the pump off myself yet
|
Here's the seal install thread https://camaroforums.com/forum/lt1-lt4-tech-9/installing-water-pump-drive-seal-43601/

now with the opti..... do i need just cap and rotor or do i need the whole thing? cuz isnt there a sensor inside the whole unit that goes bad and is makin my car throw the missfire code?
|
More often than not, it's the cap and rotor contacts that gets all corroded and causes the misfire. It would be the same as never giving an old style ignition a tune up for 100k miles or more. But since it's a project just to get to the opti, you're better off replacing the whole thing.
