ignition control wires are different colors, should go to the same places. the coils are for 93 to 96 so your coil should be the same as the one in the shbox have to look and see for a 94 diagram.

Im not the one who replaced this coil, but my brother has a '95. I am going to swap his into mine tomorrow and see if that helps.

Ok, I still cannot seem to find a diagram that matches my '94. Not only are the colors different, but the ICM pins go to different locations on the coil. It does not appear to have been worked on before, and I cannot see signs of splicing. If the same coil was used for 3 years, how can it have different wire routings? How could my car run perfectly fine fr the year I have had it, until now, without the correct wiring?

It most likely is not a wiring issue. At least not where the wiring is going to the wrong locations. Now a short or broken wire is another thing altogether.

You most likely have a faulty coil, and checking the coil is easy, just swap in a known good one.

Finding a short in the wiring is also easy, but can be very time consuming. You really need to open the whole wiring loom and visually inspect every centimeter of the wiring for cracks, burns, or breaks. Don't neglect to throughtly inspect the connectors as well, a loose pin in a connector can test good with a meter, but make sporadic connection when plugged in. Fix anything you find, or anything that even remotely looks damaged or suspect.

It was in fact the coil. I unwrapped a good portion of the wiring for the coil and ICM looking for shorts or broken wires and found nothing. I swapped in the coil from my brother's '95 Z and it fired up. Funny thing though, I noticed my brother's wiring also did not match the diagram I was using, and was the same as mine.

gm must have been low on the right color wire. my wires are so faded its hard to tell what color they are. so the color stayed the same under the tape?

Yeah the color was the same under the tape as it was by the connector, and it didnt match the diagram on either car. The tape was stiff and brittle and fell off both cars. I replaced it with new tape.

check your production codes and see if was built in mexico or for over seas, something like that. most are made in canada. codes are in the how to and faq sticky at the 4th gen general section. at the third post if memory serves.
