Camshafts
I was wondering if anyone has tried the Edelbrock Performer camshaft, or the Lt4 Hot cam, and if they were satisfied with either one?I also want to know which camshafts you have had luck with. I think maybe I should try should try a camshaft that is a little more generous on the exhaust side? Does anyone know anything about a camshaft they are refering to as the new 3/4 cam?

I would also like to know about the LT4 cam and other available cams. My guess would be that if you are heavily modifying your engine you should get a custom ground cam. As for being more generous on the exhaust side, you don't need to. Rule of thumb is your exhaust should be 80% of your intake as far as flow. but I've been told that you can go down to 63% if it's N/A because intake is much more important than exhaust in the sense that exhaust kinda takes care of itself. Intake must be sucked in, which is much harder for and engine to do, while exhaust is pushed out and is much easier to move. of couse a good complete exhaust system and intake system is important.
Making and engine very well will get you tons more power out of any stock engine.

Thanks Chuck, I have considered a custom ground cam, but I don't want a cam that will ****** the rear view mirror off of the windshield when my engine is operating at low rpms. Not to say that I couldn't get a conservative custom cam but it would be pricy for whatit is. I am looking for a cam that operates well at the largest possible rpm range. I bought the edl-2108(summit), I think it will be a good streetable cam. But the rpm range is low. My friend boughta LT4 Hot Cam, in about 3 months I will let you know the outcome.

whats the lobe seperation? if you plan to run a blower or nitrous you'll want one around 112-114, plus nitrous motors like a lot more exhaust duration, around 10 more degrees on the exhaust side, my old cam in my nitrous motor was 270/284 on a 114 lobe.

Read the camshaft 101 sticky in the "engine internals" section
