In colorado they do test your car even when the service engine light is on, i think they started doing that in 2003

Here, they won't even look at the car if any diagnostic light is on. Doesn't matter much anyway, as the car wouldn't pass emissions because of why the light is on.
You sure you checked all the fuses (pulled and looked at em), like the one for the cig. lighter/power outlet?

No i just checked the ones that sounded important, pcm ing, engine sensor and pcm something else. Ill check all of them, but i do know it is missing a 30A breaker for windows and i do have the cig. lighter disconnected. Does that matter?

The ALDL got its power from the cig lighter circuit, pretty sure your year still does. Check that fuse first.

The brake light will come on:
1) Low brake fluid
2) Pressure difference in the two master cylinder brake circuits. Possibly due to a bad master cylinder or a fluid leak.
3) Bad master cylinder pressure switche/s.
4) Wiring problem to a pressure switch connection.
5) Hand brake not fully released, or hand brake switch out of adjustment or defective.
6) Wiring problem in brake system (open, shorts, crosses, etc..)

It's kinda dumb how GM wired the ALDL to the cig. lighter circuit, but kept it a secret at the fuses.
So, good news you can read it, and bad news because now you know what it is!
Was the error a bad sensor, or sensor circuit?
