so the clutch is about dead, I was hoping to get a belt for a non AC car to run until I can fix it, but appearantly the LT1 never came without AC! SO...what are my options? How hard is it to change an AC compressor...yes I know the environmental stuff, I figure I recycle my plastic bags and paper mother nature owes me a couple "carbon credits". thanks need the help!

well you could always just take the compresser off,and I believe they make a universal AC delete pully, where you take out the compresser, drop in the "dummy' pully, throw on the original belt, and you should be good to go. I know they make them for most common cars, I would assume they make it for the popular LT1. Try looking into that

As an update the compressor died in the parkinglot of a McDonalds, I am sure it will be fun fixxing it there with the manager telling me you can't do that here!
Anybody know how big a pain it is to get to the compressor and take it out?

if you can get under it, it may not be too bad if you have small hands. as for the belt??? you may be able to just run a shorter belt for temp use. look to see where it would track. I know on these the belt has some pretty close calls

i just put one on its not relly hard but not relly easy ether.. mostly becouse of the tight spots and you will half to take it out of the bottom.. now i sprayed wd40 on the ac compreser and freed it up till i got home about 15miles away it might work for u to.. once you get it off putting the new one is farly easy.. and i dont think there is any way to run another belt whithout the ac pully or delete pullt becouse the belt will hit brackets..

well I had heard online to watch out for the cheap chinese delete pulleys like the ones sold on ebay, I thought my local autozone would be safe.
My first note that it was crap was looking at it in the store a plastic pulley bulted into the housing. My second was when I started bolting it in. I cracked 2 of the 3 bolt housings, the reason? It wasnt even made of aluminum but a cheap ceramic! This was sold as a Dorman Help brand.
I even drove an hour away to look at a used one, that wasnt remotely right.
I finally broke down and bought a reman compressor, for a $185. Sometimes its best to spend more to spend less in the long run.
Taking it off and putting it back on was not that bad. Something anyone should be able to do, I was surprised because nothing on the LT1 is easy.
