Default 96 Lt1 transmission.

My transmission has been acting weird the last few days. It sticks at about 2k RPM and it wont shift at red line. The fluid is pretty new. under 30k miles on it. What would a new transmission cost me? (its an auto) if i have to replace it, would a stock one be good or is there something better?

Does it rise threw the band and stop at 2 then keep going? I not understanding what you mean. There are better transmissions out there but if you not trying to go for performance i would just stick to a stock one look at getting that one rebuilt could be better than buying another because then you know evrything is in good condition and aint been ragged

a tranny wont stick at 2krpm, that would most likely be motor.

what im saying is, the tranny doesnt really know what rpm its at. and since everything is moving to begin with, the faster you go the less sticking you would expect.
any tranny sticking will be either electrical (at shift points only) or sparatic across power band.

the motor, however, may have a faulty map point which makes the 2krpm range a little goofy.

might that explain it not shifting at high RPM? If that is what it is, would it be an easy fix?

Could be torque converter shudder, maybe a solenoid or PCM related .. or fluid. 25-30k miles on fluid should be changed .. do you have a transmission cooler on the car ?
Oh, and the tranny can still throw a code even if you dont have a Check engine light - the OBD2 scanner wont pick up specific Transmission codes, you need to check witha differentscanner.
