95 Z28 LT1 - Computer Question Please ASAP
Pete, when I hooked up the battery cable when the ignition was of BUT the key was still in. I hooked up the positive first, then when I hooked up the negative is when I heard the pop towards the computer area. I am deaf in the left ear and it was definitely loud enough for me to know the direction it came from. Might have to buy a new computer I guess......

Craby and Pete, do you think at this point I should just replace the computer? Is there anything special I should know about the computer as to how to take it off and reinstall? There's no special sequence except to just unhook and reinstall? Like no battery hooked up or ....???
You've both taught me a lot and I do appreciate the help.

Craby,
Yeah, did that a couple of times after the install of the new air pump. But now that you mentioned it, I did not do that since installing the new radiator sensor....mmmmm. Will let you know tomorrow how that pans out. THANKS.

Craby and Pete,
Did the battery thing, hooked it back up and ran it for about 20 minutes before it overheated to the point I had to shut it down to avoid damage. Fans did not come on. Also when stepping on the gas, it chokes and dies like it did before. Seems to me I read somewhere that the car may need to be driven XX number of miles before the computer resets. I've lost that info. Know anything about that? Afraid I can't do that with the fans not starting tho. Thoughts?

Yeah Craby.......I've replaced so many things, might as well do the computer. This was going to be fixed for sale, but now it's ours! There was a problem with this car when we bought it but it was definitely hidden. There were things unhooked and bypassed in the dash and only after having blown a spark plug and doing the work that came with that did I start to have a problem. Needed to get it smogged and found the mechanic could get no readings....start engine light would not come on....opened the dash and saw that bulbs had been purposesly unplugged and the tracing and tracking started. Wires bypassed...blah, blah, blah. So, now we see why. Buy the computer! Sure hope that fixes everything! hahahaha.
Thanks Craby and Pete for all your assistance. Will let you know how it all comes out and post pictures WHEN it runs. It's a sweet beast, black on black on black convertible.

Craby, Psycho and Pete,
Sorry it took so long to get back to you. Finally got the car to run long enough to get to the shop (worked the bypass so the fans would run). Mechanic got it scoped and it said it was definitely the computer - he said that for the first 5 minutes it ran and scoped fine then suddenly the numbers went all over the board. He said time to by a computer.
The computer was another thing - car is jinxed I think. The great parts shop I have used for 40 years had two computers on the shelf. Neither one worked which upset them. They ordered another one from the factory got it at the shop and when they tried to flash it....their machine wouldn't work. Sent it back to the manufacturer and had them flash it. Got it back today. They only charged me $123----that was good! Installed it in the car and got it started. Let it run a few minutes--sounded good, but once it warmed up, it started running pretty rough and kinda acting like it did before. Did I read somewhere on this forum that it may take awhile for everything to settle down before it runs smoothly? If so, anyone know how long. Can't get it smogged so can't run it on the street to wear it in.
Thanks all. Bob
