Default 95 Head Removal?,?.?

Hello Everyone,

I have a 95 LT1 60,000 miles. I need locate a problem due to coolant loss/ white smoke out the pipes but haven't done any real test to see if it is in fact the heads. I've decided to start by replacing the head gaskets and intake gaskets. After doing this I plan on rebuilding the heads at a local shop.

What I needed some help on is the things I should look for when doing this job. Is there any chance of coolant coming from anywhere else than the gasket? It's clear coolant is in the oil and I'm afraid I might be in over my head engine problems.

Otherwise the car runs good! Where should I begin with this job and what are some things that might be a potential headache. I have done the headers in the past so Im aware of one obstacle.

Thank you for your replies and suggestions.

water in the oil could be head gasket, cracked head, or cracked block. i suggest u do a leakdown on the cooling system to see if u can pinpoint the leak. compression test should show a week cylinder. other than that get the heads checked for cracks and to make sure there not warped. now would be a good time to get the heads done. get a dealer service/shop manual before starting. like this only cheaper if u can find one. got one for 25 bucks for my 93. yours is a two booker though.
