Default 94 Lt1: Engine Codes/Tuning

I am trying to pull an engine code off my 94Lt1, but was unable to get the SES light to flash. I was told because i have an OBDII conector and that the engine codes are in OBD1 format and thats why i cant short the terminals A and B to get the engine code. But my camaro has only a 12pin ALDL and not the 16 ALDL in the later models....so should i be able to short the 2 terminals and still get it to flash?? i think its a sensor or a computer problem wrong with my car cause the car will run fine both idiling and driving anywhere from 2 mins -20 mins before the tachometer starts to freak out jumping up and down, but the engine doesnt rev any higher than normal when it jumps up, but when it jumps down the car stars to shake and wants to stall and this will keep hapening till the engine actual does stall out. any ideas?? i was thinking of the throttling sensor but have no idea unless i can get that code. I was searching the net for a diagnositc tool and stumbled across this...

just wanted peoples advice on wehther that would work or not. Anyone with any advice would be greatly apreciated.

You cannot flash codes on 94 and newer cars. You need scanner, not a code reader.

well that link i posted above, the ALDL OBDI Cables, will those not work when i connect it to my computer?? Under the heading where it says "Why the Setup" it says, " if your Service Engine Soon ( SES ) light comes on you can look at detailed OBD data for yourself to see what trouble codes have been set and the conditions they were set under, possibly saving you money in repair costs by knowing what is or isn't wrong with your car." so will this not work or will it?? if not where on the internet can u find good scanners for a realitvely cheap price??
