Default 6 speed trans

hello everyone. i have the t56 trans and i can't shift into 2,4, or 6th anymore. so i figure its time for a rebuild, my question is how hard is it to do it your self. ive rebuilt motors and been doing mechanics for years but i never meesed with taking a trans apart. so just wondering if its worth it to try or should i just pay someone? thanks for any advice.

before tearing it apart, PLEASE check your shift cables are all ok first. Since 2, 4, and 6 are your problem areas, something tells me that's the root of the issue.

yeah they have one at the scrap yard here but they wanted 1700 for it, i told them they were crazy. summit has 1 for about 2200. ive been looking around seeing if anyone had a wrecked one in there yards but no luck with that. but i did find a tow yard that has one don't know if its and auto or 6 speed yet, but they sell cars for what the tow and impound coast. i have to call them back next week to see how much.

You might be better off buying a wrecked car and parting it out. I bet you might even make money on it. A couple of my friends have used wrecked 4th gens to use in other projects. One made money and one only ended up spending $100 for the transmission he kept.
