450hp lt1 with $20k advise (canofworms)
I have a 97 lt1 with 17k miles. Rear suspension is on its last legs. Small leak from rear end pinion seal, and rear of intake manifold and/or rear main seal. great oil press.
Im looking to make it 450rwhp without bottle, and it being a potential dd, reliable given my price range. Yes i want good track numbers, not just the dyno sheet. I have the following done, 6al, msd coil, maf, CAI, 52mmtb, air elbow, short shift, 285 eagle f1s (low on life), 80 series exhaust, stut tower brace, rear trailing arms, walbro 255 Im looking to do suspension, breaks and the little things also, and i have done my reading on all subjects. So here comes the parts, feel free to add to list, input your say and criticize. umi lower control arms w/ relocation adj panhard bar 3point sfc sway bars torque arm w/ dsl drive shaft loop koni shocks adj eibach springs wilwood brakes AI 200cc heads and cam (or could llyod elliot give me the power??) ported intake pro mag SA rr 1.6 ls7 lifters pushrods kooks headers kooks y ----catted or not???? borla cat back 42lb injectors msd wires spark plugs----what kind? clutch kit-----what kind? under/overdrive pulley lt4 knock sensor double roller timing set strange s60 with 4'11 tune(: Am i missing anything? im at 13k ish, What kinda labor you think? THANKYOU!!!!!! |
or just buy a motor from golen engines, and everything else on my list thats not included.

as the hp goes up so does the rpms. the motor i have is about 400 hp probly a little less at the wheels and a little more at the crank. 383 stroke is my next move. stall is a must if auto. you have obd2 so should take a look at the ls1 motors, 450 is easier to get from them. i would recomend you look at what sam strano has and if interested give a call, one of the best suspension guys in the country, also i would recomend elliots heads, cam and intake, he is also very good at helping to get the most out of the lt1. 11.5 compression in a lt1 is good with pump gas, can go 12 as well, lt1 likes high compression. anyways do alot of looking before jumping. check my build

LE can get you close to your goals.
I do not believe you can use the 3 point SFC and relocated torque arm together as they use the same mounting points. You don't need 42 lbs injectors. 36 lb should be fine. Spark plugs depend on what compression you go with. Clutch, I'm not sure on as I drive auto. Skip on the LT4 KS...it is the same as the LT1. Double roller timing chain? I didn't think they made one that'll work with the opti. What are your goals as far as a "track" car? Road course, Auto X, drag? Craby wins...again. |
If you have 20k to spend, sell the Z28 and take the money and buy a built up C5 vette or a nicely done LSx 98-02 Fbody.
|
crabby always wins on here.. Its a 6 speed. I will give LE a call. I dont want rpm over 6500. (ive realized ive said a couple contradicting statements now) I thought it was recommended to do the double roller timing chain with higher HP stuff, and i will eventually build bottom end for boost/bottle. Its not a track or road course car, but i want to be able to do a little bit of all of it, while eating GTs and LSs. I like the sounds, and torque of the LT1, and dont want to buy an engine when i already have a dam good one. Ive thought about the vette, but my car is still new basically. I want to build it all, and not risk buying a poorly built car. (unless i can find a bad *** 02 ws6)... And crabby, most of my build is the same as yours, but i did look before

That thing is fugly ^^ IMHO. Bob Im pretty much trying to do the same thing as you, but I am doing mine a piece at a time over the course of 2 years...because I can't afford to go out and just drop that kinda money on an already built car. Plus, whats the fun in that right? :icon_drink:

I know you said you don't want one, but cam only LSx motors are hitting 450whp quite easily. Of course with that much power, everything else becomes a liability.
Any reason you want to stick with a dana60? That much power is going to make that trans look like glass jaw joe. |
because the s60 is a beast, and if i want to put 1000hp on it, it will hold. i just cant decide if i want to get out of the lt1, or have my own car that i made for me
|
lets be honest, quiet a few people have 15k put into there cars..how do yall feel about putting that much into an lt1?
|
Yes sir bob I wouldn't be able to park the evo anywhere around my house! Not that I would want one.

His answer, because every one like's to trash talk on the oldies when they buy these newer cars. They have no understanding what it means to build an engine, but spend money on factory 400+ cars and go to the drag. Their not trash talking his car, that's for sure :icon_drink: |

Hell yea
