1994 LT1 Gas gauge or MPG issue
 

Ok so I have a 94 camaro with an lt1. Doesnt seem to be getting 26mpg to me. I believe thats what its supposed to be. Seems the Gas gauge needle tends to stay around 3/4 pretty long but once it gets to half or less is moves quickly. Not sure what the issue is but im going to run it dry and see how long it stays at empty and fill it up to see what I get per tank.

If anyone has info on my gas gauge thatd be helpful! Thanks!

the shape and angle of the gas tank makes the gauge stay at full longer (wider part of tank) and once it gets below 3/4 (shinny part of tank) it drops fast. be carefull my first 4th gen ran out of gas at about 1/8 tank and i have heard of some running out at 1/4. i have gotten up to 28 mpg with my first 93 but have only gotten to 25 with this one and with this motor build 22 or so is best i can do. worst 15 mpg. alot depends on if your at highway speeds all the time or city.

I've always thought GM gas gauges flew to empty after half a tank. Weird... That being said, as far Camaros go, I had a 96 v6 and have a 02 v8 and never had it run out of gas at 1/4 or 1/8 on the gauge.

It's never a good isead to run a tank dry or even close to dry unless you are removing it.

You pick up sediment and the fuel helps cool the pump

oh, 3.23:1 in the rear, 4L60E, bolt ons and 1.6 rr's and a 93 octane tune and we see about 20-21mpg at 75mph

23mpg on a 95 T56 stock, mostly hwy
 

keep tank at least 1/4 full to preserve pump.
just fill up and reset tripmeter, then next time divide gallons by miles on tripmeter.
I thought EPA hwy mpg on LT1 f-bodies was 23mpg. my 95 is stock and I get that driving 75% hwy ~65mph and 25% city with lites....

As stated, it is never a good idea to run a tank dry with an electric fuel pump in there. The sediment can quickly shred your pump and the fuel does cool it.

Just do a simple MPG calculation the next time you fill up. I get over 300 miles on my tank and then look for a gas station. I normally get around 23-25 mpg at 60-65 on the highway.

I drove to iowa and back and on 93 gas i get 28mpg going 80
