1993 z28 problems
 

So I just bought a 1993 z28 for 1100$. I expect some problems here and there, cosmetically it's not that great, etc etc.
It has an accel 300+ digital ignition on it, right?
Well I'm cruising a long going maybe 30mph and the revs suddenly drop real low, then it catches back up and nothing goes wrong. I park real quick and call my buddy to see if he might have any idea, he said it could be the digital ignition messing up because the car has been sitting for 6 months.

I get off the call, drive maybe 500 feet to the pizza joint I was heading for, no problems so far, get my food, leave, idling out of the parking lot and the revs jump around again and it dies. I start it back up no problem, roll out and later on down the road it happens again. I go to start it, it dies immediately. I give it a minute or two then crank again and drive home, no more problems.

I know this seems pretty vague and all but I'm just curious to see if any of you guys have any idea what the problem might be.

Sounds like the opti-spark is going bad. I'd check wiring with the aftermarket ignition and make sure everything is clean and tight. I'm not the greatest when it comes to aftermarket ignitions, so hopefully someone else can chime in.

the ignition its self is just sitting on the side of the engine bay, like I can pick it up and pull it until the wire slacks, you think it could be just bouncing around and screwing with me?

Are you talking about the coil? The ignition is what we call the WHOLE system not just one part, heck even the spark plugs are part of the ignition.

Yes the coil should be mounted. If it is boucing around it could damage the connections.

Well, here's a thought. When he was describing moving the "ignition" around, I figured he was talking about the ignition control module (ICM). When the module is attached to the coil bracket, there is an aluminum heat sink between it and the bracket to keep the module from getting too hot. If that setup is no longer intact, I'll bet he's experiencing what can happen with an overheating ICM.

I meant the aftermarket part. I honestly have no idea what it really does. But it says digital ignition or some ****, I ended up just taking it off
