I have a 98 Z28 auto, the only mod done to it is i straight piped it, I dont have to worry about emissions so i was thinking about gutting the cat. but thats like running open headers and would that effect my engine if its a DD? Also what are all the free/cheap mod's i could do ?

 

a gutted cat is nothing like open headers. completely different.
I run an off road y-pipe which has NO cats, and is much bigger than your exhaust, and it has no affect on drivability. same idle, just more power. so if u want to ram something down there and gut the cats go ahead. also do the EGR and AIR deletes. there is also a TB bypass that i havent done... dont know if its worthwhile or not

 

to gut the cat what would yall recommend ? i have heard your suppost to rev it a few times to heat it up then hammer on the outside of the cat and it should come lose ?

 

Why gut the cat -- do a cat delete instead and replace it w/straight pipe -- I believe this should make the exhaust exit smoother.

Just be sure emission testing is not going to bite ya in the behind later... ;-)

 

alright i was thinking that as well ty for the advice. Would anyone know by any chance how much HP increase i would see if i grinded the ribs down on the stock air intake lid ? im guessing like 5-6hp ?
