Tranny issue? or Rev limiter settings?
Okay I have to questions that have been plaguing me. First what should the SS automatic in 1998 top out (redline) at, because mine is just over a 117. is it just because of the auto. It doesnt act like a governor it just seems like it needs to shift. Next when i get into the throttle and the car kicks down hard it acts like its hitting the rev limiter before it shifts. It sputters before it shifts like its pulling fuel and fire back. WTF my 01 z28 never done this. [sm=wtf.gif]

RE: Tranny issue? or Rev limiter settings?
The SS model does not have a speed limiter. The red line refers to engine RPM, not vehicle speed. At WOT the transmission should shift just before the red line on the tach. If it hits the rev limiter before shifting, which should come in about 200 RPM over the red line, then you have a problem. What gear are you in at 117? You should be shifting into 4th at about that speed. If no one messed with the PCM settings, then the transmission has issues. Is the check engine lite coming ON?

When I bought the car the guy said the tranny had been replaced within the last 2 years. It does go pasts redline before it shifts, but I have no check engine or any other lights. I have pondered my self if the shift settings have been messed with. Could the dealer tell me? Or do I to buy a protuner or something?

You could get the computer reflashed at a dealer and have all settings set back to stock, plus any updates included. Then you will know for sure if the transmission is working properly and not a PCM problem.. Also, a good transmission shop can run diagnostics and find out if all the tranny elecronics and line pressure are OK.
