Default A spot of help on my tranny?

Alright, here's the lowdown. I have a six-speed '98 Camaro Z28, and I don't know what in f*** the guy that had it before me did to it, but I've had issues with the transmission from day one. I had a lot of work done on it in the past, but now I think I'm headed for more trouble. The car won't grab 5th gear anymore and goes into 6th really rough. The guy before me put in one of those speed shifters, and I believe my problem is that it keeps coming out of adjustment because he really jimmyrigged that thing on there. Horrible job.

My question is, where can I find a factory shift tower/shifter assembly for a good price (Possibly a used one), and further, has anyone else been in a similar situation before? I'm hoping not, but it could be the 5th gear synchros, the fork, or a whole slew of other stuff, and I'd like to hear from anyone/everyone who dealt with a similar issue. It feels like I just can't push the gear in far enough to get it to catch.

My feeling is that it's not the shifter, I am not sure how you could "jimmy rig" one, basicly 4 bolts and thats it. The syncros in the T56 can be weak, if the car was shifted hard a lot and he missed gears a lot, it is more than likely a synco gone bad.

Hmm. Maybe it's just the shifter itself - all I know is that it keeps getting out of adjustment.

I drove it more today, it definetly feels like it's just not going in far enough. I'm not too good with actual mechs of the tranny itself - would a bad sync give that impression?

Try double clutching. If the synchros are bad it will shift OK on a double clutch, if the shifter is bad it will still shift bad.

Yep - double-clutching and I still can't grab 5th. Time for a new shifter. >.>

More than likely it's 5th and 6th shift fork. Had the same problem with my trans. Took it apart and 5th and 6th shift fork was gone.
