Does any one know how to remove the shift **** on an automatic shifter-98 Z28? When you remove the button on top that allows you to put in and out of park, there doesn't seem to be anything inside that releases the shift **** and it doesn't seem to unscrew. A corvette manual I have says the automatic **** on it has a retaining ring down inside once you remove the release button, but this doesn't seem to have a retaining ring. Any ideas?

 

there is a massive staple in the front base of the shifter **** which you need to extract first then it popes off
