Default Power Window Issue

My '02 Z28 has an issue with the passenger side power window. The window motor dies after barely cracking it (going either up or down). Let up off the switch for a few minutes, engage it again and it does the same thing. Pushing down or pulling up on the window makes it move a bit further before the motor stops. It does the same thing with both driver and passenger side switches and the driver side window itself operates fine. It also seems to be somewhat heat related (higher ambient temperature, the less the window will move) but it exhibits the same problem regardless of the temperature.

Without tearing anything apart, my only guess is some kind of short. Any ideas?

My guess would be bad window motor, both mine were doing that. Hit the button and would go down a little and then stop, hit button and nothing... wait a few minutes and would go up a bit... sometimes would take me 20 minutes to get them up. I tried splashing some Viagra on them but that didnt help at all.

But yea... my guess is motor and you can pick up a motor at AutoZone for around $40 and do it yourself if your inclined or probably run around $130 for a mechanic to do it.

Change motor and lube mechanism. One or the other is causing the circuit breaker to trip. It self resets after it cools down.

More than likely it's the regulator. That happened to mine last summer and then all of a sudden it crapped out on me and wouldn't go down or up anymore.

Yes, on my '95 I had the drivers window motor replaced, but you need to replace the regulator at the same time (they often come together as a kit) -- just a few years later the motor died again. Don't trust a car repair shop to do your homework for you -- so many times they have not done the right thing or missed something.

I had the same problem only it was the drivers side window. Turned out to be the regulator parts and labor would of been about 200 at the dealership but I bought the extended warentee with the car so it was free

Sounds like you need a new motor...once you get it going again this will help it work longer and better.

When I bought my 94 both windows were acting up. I ended up changing both sides/motors. Wasn't that bad, one side I used the little bolts that came with and the other side a friend let me use his rivit gun. Both sides are working good. Pass is a little slow but I think it's a switch issue.
