Default LS1 vs. LT1

Is the LS1 that much better than the LT1 as far as power ease of working on and reliability? Looking at a 96 SS, but might spend more if justifiable.

the ls is a better designed motor. can be built just a little bit more than a lt. ls has more hp stock as well.

i dont know. depends on the condition of each and how much the 96 is. 7k difference is a lot. is that the difference in the blue book?

I'd say $7k is a huge difference if all other things are equal such as mileage and condition overall.
Heck my '93 LT1 car is pretty decent albeit a high mile car with supposedly a lower mile motor when I got it, I'm in it less than $4500 including new tires.
If I had another $7K to put in it I would have one rock'n car.

I'm north of the border, eh, we get screwed, I know how much less they are worth in the U.S. but it's a hassle and time away that I can't do.

I just had a 1997 LT1 ss all summer and sold it a few months ago and thought it was okay performance wise nothing to brag and it was bone stock. I had nothing really to compare it to cause my 2002 firehawk has H/C intake and gear and the last time I had a stock LS1 was about 3.5 yrs ago. I recently picked up a 99 Camaro ss Conv bone stock also and what a difference performance wise and suspension wise alot smoother and every gear it pulls harder in the auto. I'm not nocking LT1's i'm just telling the truth, and the LS1 is far much better and I would spend the extra $ if you can afford it cause I really could not believe the difference till me and my brother drove them both. Day and night differnce
