ls1 hot cam
I'm looking to put a hot cam in my 00 camaro ss i want to know if i need to change the push rods as well? the specs for the hot cam are duration @ .050 219/228 valve lift with factory rocker arm ratio: .525 lsa@ 112
The stock cam specs 202/210 duration at .050 with .496/.496 intake and exhaust lift (116 lobe separation angle) |
You can get away with it, but its much easier to just do everything at once when you have the ability to. Any reason you chose that cam? That is a very small cam for the money. TR224, TR228 and the Torquer V2 and V3 are all very friendly, popular and powerful mild cams. They make great power for being such mild cams and have fantastic street manners

well i live in california so the hot cam might still pass smog. So it will do for now but in the future im planing on moving out of this commie state.

I'd definitely do some research if emissions is the only thing holding you up on that cam.
Cam question...need your help! - LS1TECH I just did a quick search and came up with that, but I think it might serve you better to maybe PM some of the guys who live in Cali with big cams and see what they know about passing emissions |

got this from lloyd on pr length checking keep in mind i got this for installing 1.6 roller rockers in a lt1 which has 1.5 non roller rockers stock. if you do not have roller rockers then you dont neeed to do it. enjoy.
PR length is something that you need to check to get the EXACT length. Use an adjustable PR checker and start at 7.100" and adjust the length until you get the wear pattern most centered in the valve. Go .050" shorter and watch the wear pattern move. If it gets worse, go .050 longer. It could be anywhere from 7.00 to 7.250 depending on everything done but a 7.100" (Trik Flow 21407100) is what I suggest for people that do not know how (or do not wanna take the time) to do this. The following is a method of verifying proper valve train geometry. After you have estimated the required pushrod length using a Pushrod Length Checker, use this method to verify that the valve train geometry is correct (using the rockers you are using in your engine): Attachment 16203 1 The first step is to install a solid lifter and an adjustable pushrod. Mark the tip of the valve with a marker Attachment 16204 2 Install your rocker arm and set it up with zero lash. Attachment 16205 3 Rotate the crankshaft clockwise several times. Remove the rocker arm. The contact pattern of the rocker tip will be where the marker has been wiped away from the valve tip. The pattern should be centered on the valve tip, and as narrow as possible. If it is not, experiment with varying the pushrod length to yield the best pattern. Attachment 16206 4 Pushrod Too Long: Notice how the pattern is wide, and shifted to the exhaust side of the valve tip. Attachment 16207 5 Pushrod Too Short: Notice how the pattern is wide, and shifted to the intake side of the valve tip. Attachment 16208 6 Pushrod Length Correct: Notice how the pattern is narrow and is centered on the valve tip. |

Frost is the best LS1 tuner if you are looking for a mail order. However, with a cam install it is MUCH better to get a real dyno tune, and California should actually have a lot of choices for you there. Definitely need to do your research when picking a shop as a tune for a cam install is a huge part in the drive ability of the car and for unlocking all the cam's power. LS1tech has region sections, best to search in there
