I need the correct hp rating ?

I have a 2002 ss camaro most of the blogs i've read indicate i have a 345 hp lsi engine, while the guy i bought it from said it is 350 hp. I'm not trying to squabble over 5 ponies, i just would like to know which is correct.he is the original owner and it did go to slp.thanks.

do you want the correct RATING or the actual output of the motor?

to my knowledge.... no camaro has EVER been rated at 345. the ratings for the ls1 in fbodies were 305 for the early z, 310 for later z, and i believe 320 for the later SS's. The actual output for all of these motors was 350. the ratings were a result of marketing bullcrap.

Ok if i'm understanding you correctly the ls1 actual hp output was 350 hp, why would they want to market a lower hp rating unless of course it had something to do with insurance rates.

You can always put it on a dyno, see for yourself what it's actually got.

Automakers screw with hp ratings all the time for lots of reasons, look at the '69 Z/28 for instance. Rated at 290, actually made closer to 360, or 400 with the dual-carb option.

the ls1 was offered in both fbodys and the corvette. corvette sales would have suffered if people knew you could get the same powertrain in a car that is 20k less.

Why would you post something that I already said? :(

I have the same "345 hp" optioned SS (2001). Does yours have the 345 HP stickers on the hood scoop? Don't know if they were put there by SLP or by a previous owner.

I have read about a few of the 345 hp packages with the center mounted exhaust (like mine.) Who knows, it seems like it's easier to find information on a 67 Camaro than it is on a 4th Gen.
