Help choosing on a cam
Hey guys, I have a A4 ls1 camaro z28 and am looking to buy a cam. I have 3.73 gears with a cat-back and LTs on they way. I am also looking to get either an lsx or ls6 intake(havn't decided yet) plus the slp cold air setup and a big stall. I am mostly looking for off the line power. I am looking at the comp 224/230 with .581/.588 lift and 114 LS. Would this get me the most power off the line or should I go with something else? I really don't know that much about cams so any input would be great, thanks.
for one the ls6 intake would be your best bet and from what I know that the stock heads wont accept a lift greater then .555 lift so if you want a good cam go with that and change out your springs rockers and get better push rods. I know that JD1969 put a 4000 yank stall on his a4 and put up some nice times with his car
You can definatly run a cam with more than .555, my cam is a .598. . My set up is as follows
.598/.598 231/237 on a 112 with +2* It's a TSP grind
Comp 918 valve springs
Comp harded push rods
Yank 4000SS stall with a 2.5 STR
3.42 gear
BFG drag radials
UMI lower control arms
This combo has been good for 11.8's @ 113-114 and a 60 foot of 1.54 (1.60's are average).
Also the LS6 is a good intake.

The stock springs are only good for stock lift which is only like .45x? You can go as big as .6somthing, I forget the exact number, but it is more of a piston to valve clearance issue than anything. The TREX cam is bigger than .600 and it is made for a stock bottom end.
