Buying 99 z28...have some questions
Im buying this car from a friends friend....it has around 100k on it, and hes asking 5k..
I have been told by some people that the cars great, never really have to change out anything.
some people tell me its a cash cow, and ill be spending every check on it.
I already had a supercharged Tbird which was a cash cow, thats no fun. and now my current Tbird has air ride suspension, and im fixing some damage and in the meantime i want a cool car to drive to work and around town..unfourtunatley, i cant drive a honda....its just so slow, i know that sounds stupid but i always wanted an ls1.
SO of course i jumped on the ls1 camaro for the 5k hes asking, thats so cheap to be in the 300+bhp range
ive done some reading on this site, and ive gathered that if properly taken care of the M6 wont bust on me, i know it might and i ready to upgrade, no biggie, but what else should i be on the lookout for?
By the way it a
1999 z28
some sort of cat back/ no other mods
over 100k, but maintaned
it is a manual, and i dont know how to drive a manual, but im willing to learn for this car. and because of this im sure ill destroy the old clutch and get to upgrade at the same time. anything i should be on the look out for?

I honestly think you can find a car in the same price range with alot less miles. Just to get an idea go to autotrader.com. Look up cars that have that mileage , being sold by private owners for that price. If the car has been well maintained who knows, I would get a mechanic who KNOWS LS1's to look at it. Not just any grease monkey. Plus if this car was driven hard for 100k miles it may have some issues. Camaro LS1's are pretty reliable if theyhave been taken care of. But make no mistake ...they are not Camry's. The T56 tranny can take a beating. If you start to really mod out the car, you can kiss your clutch and rear end good bye, as these are usually the 2 things that need replacing right after you built up any kind of power.
Oh and btw, all LS1's make pretty much the same power...about 290-310hp at the wheels. Which is around 345-ish at the flywheel. 98-00 auto's are at the lower end of those figures while 01-02 M6 cars are at the higher end. GM underrated them on paper on purpose so Vette owners don't get sand in their panties.
Plus some cars are factory freaks making 320+ at the wheels bone stock. Go Figure, good luck with what you decide

Everyone keeps saying you can find them cheaper, but in the last few months that I have been looking, most Z28s have been running about $6000 average with 100k to 150k miles. (I've been finding a lot of just Camaros with the V6 at that price, too.) It isn't that uncommon to find them up to $8000. If you find the ones with lower miles, around 50,000 miles, then the prices are pushing $8000 to $10,000. Get around 25,000 miles and you are into the $15,000 to $20,000 cars.
I'd say if it is clean, runs good,a nd you like it, go for it. Check it over like any used car, and be sure it has been maintained and not abused, and the go for it if it passes.
Enjoy.

It sounds pretty good to me, especially since its manual and the fact that it was well maintained. But this is America, so don't be afraid to shop around. But definitely keep that in mind.
have somebody look it over good and if everthing checks snag it up,not sure where zoilus is from but around me 98-up ls1 go 7000. and up for m6.yeah you can find autos all day long for 5500-up.you
guys i am smellin what your cookin but thats not bad for a 99z with 100k on it i am lookin at a 99z with t tops and it awesome shape and its pushin eight i am definetly going to try to get it for about six or so i am in south carolina to so its different every where you go. if i could find one for that cheap i would be all over it. i have been lookin for an ls1 car for about 2 months i am only 19 and about to start at NASCAR TECH. INSTITUTE so i am tryin to find an affordable ls1 but something i can still have lotsa fun with.
I just got an 02 Z about 5 months ago with 72000 on it for $8000, If you can afford it, i would look closer to the 01 and 02...they are definetly worth the extra cash!!!
