Default Buying an 01 SS, buddy says clutch feels "high"

Hey all,

Trying to buy myself a nice summer convertible car this year, had a look at a guy's 2001 Camaro SS w/53,000km on it (that's 32,000 miles, I'm in Canada). I've been driving automatics all my life but I want a stick-shift sports car, so I brought a buddy who drives a stick Imprezza RS to get an evaluation of the mechanics.

He mentioned that he thought the clutch seemed "high" -- the point where it started to "bite" seemed closer to the top range of the pedal movement than he was expecting. Since he'd never driven a Camaro before either, he couldn't tell if it was supposed to be like that or not, so I thought I'd ask: does anybody know if the clutch point is "high" on the 01 Camaro SS? Seller said it was a stock clutch, and that he "sometimes" liked to dump it, so it's possible that it originally was lower down and the clutch plate is simply worn down, which means it might need to be replaced soon.

If I decide to buy, I'll of course get a mechanic to look into it, but he might not have seen too many Camaros either , so if anybody could offer any suggestions as to whether this kind of behaviour is normal, it'd be much appreciated.

I've had 2 camaros, both with decent kms, and they were both high. So.. as far as I know, I'd say it's "High".

Cool, thanks. I will probably make an offer to the guy next week or week-end. Assuming we can agree on a price, the first thing on my mind is the stereo. I know it's good-quality, but I added an iPod hookup to my Matrix ages ago and now I can't live without it. I'm torn between either buying an iPod hookup for the stock stereo (makes the iPod look like a CD-changer to the stereo), getting a "regular" single-DIN head unit and replacing the Monsoon HU, and getting a fancy flip-out screen HU. I'll have to see what other folks have done... too bad the Camaro only has a 1.5 DIN spot instead of a full 2.0.

you could always buy a simple ipod fm transmitter until you can choose which higher quality set up to get. that way you can survive without using to much dough.

Ya, I had one of those for a while in my Matrix but the quality is terrible compared to a proper wired connection. I still have the little transmitter nub though.

Really... I just did some googling and found these links:

http://www.doubledmods.com/category.sc?categoryId=8

It's a possibility, but then at $200 it's almost as much as getting a fold-out... have to see about all this *after* I buy the car, heh.
