Default 2000 SS Mod Questions

I have owned this car for 5 years now. I have not ever put any modifications on it except the exhaust. What should be my steps in adding more power? I have Magnaflow Catback on the car already. (I love it incase anyone cares)

1) I know there is some sort of "chip" out there that can help performance. any suggestions?

2) Are under pullies available for the LS1? If so what do you recoomend?

3) Long tube headers and "Y" pipe.. Is there a good combo that alows me to keep my cats installed & work nicely with the magnaflow I have on already?

4) Air box? What do you reccomend? I have read a lot about the SLP.

5) If this was your vehicle and you wanted to stick to the "bolt on" sort of upgrades in what order would you up grade the vehicle?

Thanks in advance to all who answer the questions.. I am admittedly a car noob. But I do enjoy Muscle cars and Muscle car history very much.

1.Don't bother with a hand help tuner, get a dyno tune AFTER you are done with your mods.
2. Yes ASP makes a nice, you need a new serpintine belt as well.
3. I think FLP makes them, or you can just add Random Technology high flow cats to any long tubes.
4.All air boxes will give the same gains. I am happy with my SLP but have nothing to compare it to. There is a company that makes a cliear lid but I forget the name of them.
5. I would mod in this order. Lid, longtubes, LS6 intake, ported throttle body, gears, converter/clutch (depending on trans type), drag radials, lower control arms. Then if thats not enough go with a nice cam and you should be in the 11's.

there are some free mods that you can do that will help some, but not much. you can also take out the screen from your maf sensor. then port and polish the maf. the slp lid is a pretty good upgrade. i put a fipk by k&n and i could tell a slight difference.(fuel injection performance kit) about the same thing as cold air induction kit but better in my opinion, but that is just my opinion. i hope this helps, and good luck. keep us posted on your progress.

Do not port your MAF, the stock MAF is good for 400 rwhp. I have seen more harm than good by porting the MAF.

if you dont want to you dont have to. but i could tell a differnce at the track. i gaind about .02 in the 1/8 when i did this. it didnt hurt mine.but that is not saying you will have the same results. i did it to my 98SS, a friend did it to his 2000 ws6. so far it has worked out for us.

That .02 (or 2 one hundreths of a second) could very well have come from weather or other factors. THe only real way to tell is on a dyno and even then all the varibles have to be the same. Trust me on this, I am one those guys who has been building these cars since they came out, we used to port the MAF all the time but quickly discovered that it really did nothing but make tuning harder.
