Silencer needed on 98z28 intake ?

is the air silencer on the ls1 needed ? or can i take it off ? also i was told it will get you around a 5hp gain because of the air restriction is gives anybody know if this is true ?

take it off. theres a bunch of compainys that make a smooth lid and bellow kit. it runs about 130 bucks but it will free up some h/p for you.

as far as sound it... you can hear it sucking it in...

In my opinion you're not going to get any HP from taking off the silencer, but it looks like you've already made your decision...If you have the option you should return the SLP smooth bellows and go for the Fernco mod, it's much cheaper.

I got the slp lid and bellows. A couple weeks later i GAVE my bellows away to a guy in exchange for his stock accordian bellows. the smooth bellows are a pain in the *** and dont do anything. the lid is a good mod tho.
