K&N Air Filter botch up

I have never bought a K&N air filter and i don't really plan to, and I think it is a joke for K&N to claim as much power increase they claim oven a stock paper element. I know that this seems to be a bad topic to bring up and i totaly agree. I know there are alot of people out there that agree that paying 50$ for a filter you think is so much better is rediciulious. So i wanted to hear from someone that has bought a K&N filter for their sbc and let me know if you could really feel or hear the difference in your cars performance.

I bet you never did.

It depends on the car yes, but K&N FIPK (Fuel Injection Performance Kits) DO make a difference. Look at factory intake ducts, they have lots of ridges and usually a resonator box that impaires the smooth flow of the air. The air filter has shorter pletes therefore more air and more smooth flow of air. I didn't feel "THAT" much of an increase in performance, but I did feel some. Espcially on my 2.2L 2001 Chevy S10

Been using the same two K&N filters on my TPI car for the last ten or more years. Cleaned & oiled once a year.

The KN filter itself does't flow any better than a clean stock filter. There is a difference when it is used as part of a cold air intake, but not because of the filter but because of better plumbing. The good hing about them is that they are reusable and look pretty. On a Friday evening we were playng around with a 95 z28, ran with the stock filter, a K&N replacment filter, and no filter. Trap speed and ET's were practically the same. The following week we went back with a K&N cold air intake and averaged about 1/10 sec better ET and 1 MPH increase in trap speed.

My friend put one in his 94 Intrepid and he said he noticed a difference. Not a huge one but a noticeable one.

People tend to put too much reliance on their butt dyno, and a lot of the results are just wishful thinking. Go to a drag strip and test in a controlled environment and get real results.

On my 95 Z28, I put on the Moroso CAI. It really didn't even begin to help until the car hit 4000 RPM, after that, the car went from 4K to redline quicker than with the stock intake. It helped, not astronomically, but there was some slight noticible improvement.

Well, Here's the real deal. I had a Dyno 383 Chevy that made 410 HP with no air filter. Installed a $ 30.00 Mr Gasket Air Cleaner with the dropped base. It made 418 HP ( Wix Paper Element ) Installed a K & N Element and it made 411 HP. Just the facts M'am.

Well it doesn't respond to hp, but on my dad's 2002 Mercury Mountaineer, there is a built in MPG computer built in. After using the paper air filters in there for 75,000 miles, I put in a drop in K&N for him. MPG with paper Fram and Motorcraft air filters 18 MPG. MPG with K&N 18 MPG. No change?!?!?!? I tried it with both synthetic and petrolium oil. It did go from 18 MPG/w petrolium to 20 MPG w/ synthetic. We use Mobil 1 in this car. It's the V6 245 CID 4.0L.
