Default Exhaust setup??

i'm looking for a way to route my exhaust on my camaro for the 5.7 that's going in. i was thinking maybe side pipes, but i don't know if it's going to be too loud. what do you guys think?? 3 inch all the way back into side pipes on either side?

(this will also have to flow pretty good too because i'm looking at going to a 454 later on)

if you use shorty headers you shopuld be fine with a 2 1/2" or 3" single exhaust. dual exhaust is hard to do on these cars. but if you want ill show you pics of my duals. and yes with cherry bombs cuz thats all i had clearance for is very very very loud.

except all that is with long tube headers and its true dual. i also had to put 2 1/2" coil lifters in the rear so i dont scrape everywhere.

if you are just going with a 350 now, I have to believe that your 454 isn't going to come anytime soon so don't build your exhaust to the 454, build it to the 350

now back on subject. with a 350 you really shouldn't go with a 3" exhaust with a normally aspirated engine. this is a mistake a lot of people make, kind of like with new cams, they automaticly think bigger is better. that couldn't be further from the truth!

with the 3" you are going to lose a lot of low-end torque over 2 1/2", which is what you feel when you're mashing the hammer down off the line. the benefits that you might get from the bigger pipes would be on your top-end, and you need to ask yourself how much you will really get to feel that?

stick with a quality 2 1/2" system and I don't think you'll ever be dissatisfied with your choice.

if/when you go to the big-block, then you can switch to a bigger exhaust and a longer header because the BB already has gobs of low-end power so you won't miss it

well i regularly race with this car. next summer it's coming out to every Auto X and track day i can make it to, so it's going to be up in the top end quite a bit

then if your 350 is going to be built good enough, I'd say go for it.

one question for you though, in auto-cross isn't it more important for your lower end power, to help get you out of the hole, and for instant throttle response, than it is to have top-end speed? what do you average for top-speeds while auto-xing?

just a little curious

just use 3" and it shouldnt be bad with the bigger diameter it gets quieter.

fastest track i managed 75 (this was with the 3.1 V6, not the 350)

with that being said, shouldn't you build an engine with most of the emphasis on your low to mid-end power and torque, opposed to high end speed?

never raced like that but it just seems like the right route to go because you don't really get out in the open for long

well the car is also going to be seeing full race tracks like Road America, so it's going to need top end power too
