Antifreeze leaking like mad

I have a 2002 V6 Camaro that is gushing antifreeze. After having it looked at, I was told the upper intake gasket is leaking. However, the cost for the repair would be more than $300. I was wondering if I could do this from home. My family and I can do small(ish) car repair jobs, but I'm not sure if this is within our capabilities. Is there a free how-to manual somewhere? Should I just cough up the money? Any help you could offer would be fantastic and much appreciated.

Another little thing driving me crazy if you guys would be kind enough to help: My rims (which I assume are factory) are eroding on me. I air up my tires every other day. And I am having a lot of trouble finding decent, affordable 16 inch chrome rims that fit my car. I'd like to have the exact same rims, but I was told by a Chevy dealership that they would cost $600 apiece. You guys ever have this issue?

It's even easier than an optispark change, just ask BC. ;)

Make sure you get the good gasket. I don't know for sure if your year engine had a bad gasket, but GM used intake gaskets that were not compatible with extended life antifreeze.

I paid $100 for my rims off a 2000 Z28. I think Autozone has the Step by step in there how to section.

That's the truth. Smatter of fact, had to replace them on my 02 malibu last year... funny thing is, the dealership wanted to sale me the same gaskets that went bad to begin with! Unbelieveable! That's what really irks me. GM knows they have a problem and they won't fix it.

Fel-Pro's gaskets resolve the future issue of the gasket being eaten by the antifreeze. Looks like GM just lost another parts sale IMHO.
