Wheel Hop

Default Wheel Hop

I needsome ideas on how to stop wheel hop on myCamaro. Here'swhat I got. 1968 SS396, Turbo400,Posi trac W/3.55, multi leaf springs, 215/70 14 radials w/32psi. I have installedLakewood slapper barsby instructions leavinga small gap between bumper and spring. No change so I closed the gap to preload the bars, still no change. I calledLakewoodand they had no recomendations.I could sure use some help.

maybe you should have put in some Cal Tracks ??? i've been told these are the best to give you traction

Which Lakewood bars? The type that replaces your bottom leaf spring plate, or the ones that clamp onto the leaf springs? If they're the clamp type, then that's your problem.

Yes, they are the ones that replace spring plate/shock mount.

Do you have the clamps on that attach towards the front of the slapper bars? They wrap around the leaf spring and attach to the bar to keep the two more sandwiched together. The clamps keep the bars (and the rear axle) from torquing back down when you let off the throttle.

Yes, they were installed per instructions.

Are your front-mount leaf spring bushings and the rear upper & lower leaf spring/shackle mount bushings in good condition, or are they old? Are they rubber or urethane? Urethane bushings can help to tighten up the rear suspension. Not saying that's definitely it either, but sloppy, worn rubber bushings will allow the rear end to "tweak".
