Transmission Mount

A loud noise rattles everytime i put the car in reverse. 97 v-6 . The noise is loud and distinctly under my armrest....I looked directly underneath and it appears to be where the transmission meets the driveshaft area...and I see a big rubber mount sitting on the crossmember...the rubber is pushing over the member and appears to be in rough shape....Ive read about these on other posts...do you think this is the noise? Why does it mainly happen in reverse.....I only notice it a few other times in drive about 30mph on bumpy roads but not as loud and constant as when in reverse.

RE: Transmission Mount

The torque arm from the rear end to the tranny will cause the tranny to jump when the mount is broken. Its the rear end twisting. Put a urethane mount on and you will never break it again. I have seen them at autozone before. The brand was Energy Suspension.

V6 V8 it does not matter. It is just a standard GM tranny mount.
