Default Tach troubleshoot

1980 Z/28. Tach is wired correctly (I think) but doesn't work. Do those little filters go bad?Where would I find one?

I had never gotten around to hooking the filter up on my 84 and the factoyr tach worked fine. Its just noise reduction. Check your wires. Power, ground and a signal off the negative of the coil. Should be a white wire usualy.

[X(] you should have an hei ignition unless youve decided to go back in time. ill assume the "filter" you speak of is a capaciter and in most cases it either works or it dont and if it dont neither will you get any spark. on hei systems the "tach" terminal is marked on the dist cap. for points you come off the negative side of the coil for a tach signal kurt

I never hooked up the capaciter in my car and it ran. It does not keep your car from running like a bad capaciter in a points ignition.
