Ok, well the dampner is marked with a white line, well it looks like somebody "scratched" a line on it...so just used the middle of the scratched line and called it TDC. Think Im going to have to turn the motor until I can see the line and maybe make a new line if I can see the original. I read you can stick a screwdriver into the #1 hole. Turn the motor until you feel the piston with the screwdriver and feel the piston raise and drop..Thats how you know TDC. Oh and also looking inside the distributor making sure its also pointing to the #1 cylinder.

You can try it that way too. But after the first mark, you still need to rotate the engine further clockwise to drop the piston down some, back the engine up till the piston stops and make another mark, then find your spot between the two as described before. Just bringing the piston up till it stops isn't TDC.

Nah, found the mark on the dampner...brushed off the white out and found the exact mark. AND found out my timing is too retarded...its approx. 8 degrees ATDC...Think that is not right...so tomorrow will try advancing timing and run car..see how it does.

Yeah, that's definitely not right. Try more like 8 BTDC for starters.
