replacing lifters and cam(difficulty?)

How much work is it to replace lifters and cam in a 98 v6 camaro?
I notice that the engine is a ways back... will it need to be pulled to do the work?
Do I need to pull the heads to replace the lifters? I read that it might be able to be done just by removing the rocker arms and push rods then using a magnet tool to pull the lifters out.

And I guess to remove the cam I just need to pull everything off the front?

Thanks for any info, and if you have by chance had this work done could you tell me what it cost you?
