RE: Please HELP!! Vin Question

I think the numbers on the cowl tag are just the option numbers. Paint code, trim code, engine code....

RE: Please HELP!! Vin Question

Yes. The 1st 5 digits on the vin (dash tag) are also located on the 1st line on the cowl/firewall tag. The vin (dash tag)digitswill then be followed by a letter, then the i.d. number. This number is what seperates your car from the rest. This number is used in recovery of stollen cars. It is also found stamped behind the heater cover on the firewall or beneath the cowl on the passenger side. This helps prevent fradulent "cloning". The selling of a car as a model it never was.
These are the only numbers from the cowl tag that are found on the vin tag.

RE: Please HELP!! Vin Question

There are NO matching numbers between the VIN tag and the trim tag.

There are 4 different variations of the first five digits on the VIN tag:
12437 = V8 Coupe
12467 = V8 Convertible
12337 = 6 Cyl Coupe
12367 = 6 Cyl Convertible

The trim tag can have only one of two possible numbers:
12437 = Coupe
12467 = Convertible. (The third digit is always a 4).

So, if you had a 6 Cyl Coupe for example, the Vin would have 12337, and the trim tag would have 12437. These numbers could overlap if you had a V8 Coupe for instance (12437 on both tags), but it would be strictly by coincidence only. These aren't numbers that are supposed to match each other for any reason.

Thats right. The 1st 2nd and 5thdigit will show up on the vin.
