need some help here
i have another oil question. if my car calls for 10w 30 and it burns a little bit of oil, whats the next thicker oil i can safely use? and will that work? by the way i always use mobil 1 synthetic....... and every 3000 miles its down like halfway between fill and full on the stick. should i even be worried? the cars a 98 camaro 3.8 with 105000k miles. i was thinking 10w40.
well u can use the 40 weight or even the 50 weight. mobile one also. seems that people are using the purple kind too. is it burnin or leaking? have u checked the bay?
A heaveir weight oil will probably not help your oil loss problem. If the car is burnning oil which is not uncommon for 105k miles it is probably the valve seals or sneaking past the oil rings.
I would suggest using Lucas oil treatment to and see if that helps some. That will keep the viscosity of the oil consistant when it warms up. You can use it with synthetic oil as well.
I have had great results with all of the lucas products.Good Luck

How is your radiator fluid? tranny fluid? Do you get smoke from the exhaust? If so, what color? Seems like a lot of oil consumption to me.
The oil is going somewhere. Maybe into the cooling system, usualy the other way around though. Or into the tranny, which can happen although also usually the other way around. Perhaps into the fuel system. If there are no obvious leaks, I would figure out where the oil was going first.
